Nelumbo Nucifera is also known by the name of sacred lotus, or simply lotus. It is the national flower of India and Vietnam, but is also native to Queensland, Australia. The flower is mainly cultivated in water gardens. The roots of the plant are seeded in the soil underneath a pond or river, while the leaves are visible afloat. The stems are thick, which holds the flowers well above the leaves. The usual height of a lotus plant is about 150 cm, with a horizontal spread of about 3 metres. The leaves can reach up-to 60 cm in diameter, while the beautiful flowers can grow up-to 20 cm in diameter.

Oil

The oil extracted from the lotus has an intense floral, earthy and sweet undertone. It has a honeyed structure, with underlining prevalence of the aroma of coumarin. The oil has an immense richness, with a soft yet bold green top note. The appearance is viscous and dark. Predominantly, the white lotus oil is an orang-ish red transparent liquid with a consistency of molasses.

Extraction

The white lotus oil is primarily extracted using the solvent extraction method. It is used best when blended with perfumes, specifically with Ambrette, Amyris, Cognac, Jasmine, or Patchouli.
